WOODEN FENCES

To make wooden fences, posts etc... I use the traditonal method.  There are many different types of wooden fences made.  Wooden fences are based on 3 elements which are described below:

WHAT THE FENCES ARE MADE FROM

Wooden type nails that are made of larch, labrunum and oak which are necessary for the assembly of the fence.  They are like pins with nail like heads.  They measure from 20-30mm in diameter and 15cm in length.

The particular thing about these nails used for fences, is that they are movable at the joints, therefore avoiding cracking due to deterioration, weather and the drying process.  Horizontle pieces of fences are made with smoothed or natural planks.  They can be made with two or more rows depending on the customers requests.

The poles are made in larch, chestnut wood or labrunum.  During the process the poles are made pointed using a chainsaw which are in turn carbonized.

HOW IT IS DONE

On plain areas the poles are planted into the ground with a special hammer tool and aligned with a rope.

On mountainous areas, particularly steep, were it is impossible to get to with vehicles we prefer to prepare the holes in the ground with steel poles and plant the wooden poles with wooden hammpers.

When finished the poles are all tilted a little so as not to let water sit still and damage the poles.

CURIOSITY

The wooden hammers used to plant the poles are called SLEIGL, these are stronger than normal hammers and help avoid damaging the poles.
